Abbotsford Traditional Secondary off to a great start!

ATSS is off to great start this year and we are excited for another excellent year with our new and returning Titans! Our startup has been very smooth, as we worked to complete timetabling adjustments, balanced classes, and met an abundance of student requests. We are happy to report that our students and staff have now settled into their classes and learning is happening!

Our senior Titans, under the leadership of Mrs. Webster and Mr. Currie, have embraced Link Crew this year. Following an intense and fun two-day training session with three other secondary schools in the district, we were able to welcome each of our grade 9s to ATSS during our August 31 Orientation Day. Being assembled in small groups with two Link Leaders, our grade 9s will partake in a number of activities and events throughout the year, as we work to bridge the gap between middle and secondary and foster a positive transition from grade 8 to 9.

Another positive for our grade 9s was a day spent at Camp Stillwood, again working with their Link Leaders, partaking in a number of team building and challenging events such as zip line, archery, high ropes, and a climbing wall. What a great way to begin the year; building team and connecting with one another.

We are looking forward to our joint ATMS & ATSS “Meet the Teacher” evening, when we share pizza and samosas with our community, parents, and staff. This will be followed by a chance for parents to meet the teachers and other key staff who will be working with the students this year.

At ATSS, we are working hard to develop a sense of community and to provide opportunities of personal challenge which extend beyond simply our students’ classroom experience. Accordingly, we are eager to head to TWU in October with all of the Titan grade 11s who will also complete team building and challenge courses with the Omada Group.

Our teaching staff will be hosting a variety of professional growth workshops during our first non-instructional day on October 22 including the development of standard-based assessment in CheckMyProgress as well as a session on the implementation of the MyBluePrint Program.

We are off to an excellent start and are eager to see the successes the year will bring!
