Principal's Message - Nov. 2017

By Andrew Macphail

Well the grey days of November are upon us. It is also time for us to send home student progress information for you as parents to get an update on how your son or daughter are doing. Please refer to the information following for how to contact your son or daughter’s teacher for a meeting for Thurs. Nov. 23. We have been working on producing a Standards-Based Grading report in “checkmyprogress” for you as parents which more clearly defines areas of success and of growth in your son or daughter’s learning. You will see this in the Gr. 9 report summaries, in particular, being e-mailed out to you today. Please feel free to give us feedback either by emailing me at or by contacting either our office or your teacher. We would be pleased to hear your thoughts on how we are doing in reporting students’ progress to you as parents.

We have just experienced a meaningful and respectful Nov. 11 Remembrance Day Ceremony done by students of both schools, ATMS and ATSS. It was a special privilege to have one of our grads, Sunny Hansra, return to us as a guest Armed Forces member to speak to us about the significance of our Remembrance Day. We also experienced expert bugling for the “Last Post” and “Reveille” performed by our own students, Jazz Hayer who I also must say performed for the Ceremony held at the Abbotsford cenotaph. Well done Jazz. I also would like to thank both our ATSS and ATMS students for being very respectful in this special ceremony.

There are several important events coming up. We have scheduled a Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MADD, presentation on the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This will be in an assembly for Gr. 10 – 12s on Wed. Nov. 22 starting in the gym at 9:30. Basketball season is up and running so stay tuned as the season fast approaches. As well we have a Career Fair day for the district scheduled for Gr. 11s on Tues. Dec. 5. We will need permission forms signed by you as parents so that our Gr. 11s can go and have a look at the different careers that are out there as they approach their final year of public schooling. Also our Christmas Dinner and Dance will soon be here on Thurs. Dec. 7 and our Christmas Band Concert on Tues. Dec. 12. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is fast approaching. We will need you as parents to help volunteer for our upcoming Christmas Dinner and Dance, Thurs. Dec. 7. Please contact Mr. Currie at if you are interested and able to help us out. As well I encourage you to please stay in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely, Glen Hildebrand, Principal, ATSS
