Principal's Message - October

By Andrew Macphail

We are now approaching Remembrance Day and soon after Christmas holidays will be upon us. At times it is hard to believe how the time can fly. Our students are well into their courses and I encourage you to contact their teachers to keep in touch with their progress. We have Parent/Teacher Interviews coming up on Nov. 22 for the whole day. We’ll send out more information on making appointments as we get closer to the time. We no longer do evening Parent/Teacher interviews as we have an online marks program you as parents can access at any time. You can also book an appointment with a teacher at any time as well. Just go to our website, (atss.ca), and under “Our School” and under the drop box “School Staff” you can access all of our teachers’ e-mails.

We have just experienced a great outdoor activity for team building and leadership development in our three grades, 9 to 11. We have over the years sought to put together a challenging outdoor experience for our students where they can get the opportunity to meet new friends and work together to solve or experience challenging activities. Our Gr. 9s went to Camp Stillwood, our Gr. 10s to Grouse Mountain and our 11s to Trinity Western Univ. for the Omada High Ropes Course. A great time was had by all.

Well done to our Gr. 12s who have also experienced a great time to celebrate together as a Grad class by going on their Grad cruise which included a wonderful dinner and dance on a tour boat as we toured the Vancouver harbor. Our grads were well behaved and had a great time together. Thank you to all of the teachers and Mrs. Webster our Vice Principal who organized and supervised these trips so that our students could enjoy.

So far, I am pleased with our student driving as we have had neighbourhood complaints in the past. We have tried to be more proactive this year and our grads seem to be responding by being more responsible in their driving. Thank-you to you as parents for your support in this ongoing challenge.

We have scheduled our Nov. Remembrance Day Ceremony for Fri. Nov. 9 in partnership with the Middle School. We invite you as parents to attend with us if you are interested and able. The start will be 10:12 am. If you have any questions about anything school or student related, please don’t hesitate to contact the school either by e-mail, (see our website, atss.ca for teacher emails), or our office at 604-850-7029.

Sincerely, Glen Hildebrand, Principal, ATSS
